Danny DeVito makes what could be a critical intervention in the UK general election
It looked like it was all over, until this one crucial tweet...
With a 15-point polling deficit to bridge in the three weeks before the general election, the Labour Party might be facing an uphill struggle to beat the Tories on 8 June, but as the old saying goes, 24 hours is a long time in politics, and there are all sorts of curveballs to come.
There’s one celebrity endorsement that could have the Conservatives trembling into their knickerbockers: the American actor and comedian Danny DeVito has backed a horse, and some analysts (ie. the ShortList.com newsroom) reckon his intervention could blow the election wide open.
In a tweet sent this morning, DeVito, the tiny star of Always Sunny In Philadelphia, LA Confidential and Twins, endorsed the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn:
This isn’t DeVito’s first move into politics. The 72-year-old stanned openly for the left-wing candidate Bernie Sanders in last year’s American presidential elections, appearing at rallies and hitting the campaign trail, though his guy was narrowly pipped to the Democratic nomination by Hilary Clinton, who as we all know knocked her campaign out of the park.
And last year, on the red carpet at an event in LA, he endorsed Jezza for the first time, claiming he was a "big supporter".

The longtime left-wing Democrat has a history of pithy political commentary. His best work, though, hands down, was a tweet sent in the middle of the night US time on 3 March 2013, directed at one of the most right-wing judges on the US Supreme Court, Antonin Scalia. Here it is, in all its glory:
