Darth Vader looms large over new Rogue One trailer
Gareth Edwards' spinoff starts filling in the blanks
Felt a great disturbance in the Force? Probably last night's curry - you know those spices play havoc with your... oh, wait, no it's probably this.
Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has released a new trailer, piecing together an exposition of the first of many planned Star Wars-spinoff titles.
Criminal, loner and general badass Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is offered a job by a shady resistance group calling itself The Rebellion. They've discovered that the Imperial army has created a deadly super weapon (you know where this is going, right?) in a bid to keep the galaxy under its thumb. She and a band of misfit soldiers must discover "how to destroy it", all while the Emperor's famed Sith apprentice watches over proceedings.
Sure, you know that these events lead up to 1977's A New Hope. You know how this story is going to play out. But the telling of this 'gap' in the Star Wars saga looks a good deal darker than anything the franchise has offered before; no lightsabers, no Millennium Falcon, no Jar Jar. It's a Star Wars with grit. And we can't wait to see it.
We'll have to though; it's not out until 16 December. We'll just have to make do with this for now.
