David Moyes looked like the saddest man alive during his first West Ham game

During West Ham United’s Premier League defeat at Watford, manager David Moyes looked a broken man, exhausted by a long season of battling against relegation.

That’s not really a great look in your first game in charge.

Plenty of questions have been asked with regards to the Scot’s appointment, and will continue to be asked as long as the club remains in the relegation zone.

However, image counts for a lot in football, and the site of Moyes looking like this tells its own story.

Twitter had an absolute field day as Moyes marked his 500th Premier League game with his 169th defeat, and his talent for expressively miserable faces it was clearly to much to ask to not pile in.

Hangdog doesn’t even begin to cover it.

The Football Manager background lent an extra layer to it all.

Indeed, his trademark look is so ingrained at this stage that the ‘David Moyes looks like’ tweets don’t even always need an accompanying photo – we know what we’re dealing with by now.

A few hours after the game, it seemed West Ham were responding to the defeat with about as much coherence as their players and staff showed at Vicarage Road, reportedly calling 999 to complain about the 2-0 loss.

Essex Police’s control room called on them to stop wasting police time, though with Moyes in the hotseat and another more established Premier League manager now on the market, fans may complain the West Ham board are now wasting Pulis time. No, I’m not sorry.

West Ham’s next two games, against Leicester City and Everton, will be followed by a tough run against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal and a League Cup quarter-final meeting with the Gunners.

It looks like it’ll need to get worse before it gets better.
