A third R-rated Deadpool movie is already in the works, complete with special guests
Introducing the X-Force movie
Deadpool was good, wasn’t it? Lots of fart jokes and punching and all that – great stuff. So obviously you’re all excited for Deadpool 2 (which is set for release in 2018), particularly after seeing that short film starring Deadpool that appeared out of nowhere the other day. Here it is if you missed it:
What fun. Anyway, the producer of Deadpool and a bunch of other X-Men movies has been waxing off about what else we can expect from the Merc With A Mouth.
Firstly, we’ve got the sequel to get out of the way, but then a third movie, titled X-Force is next on the plate. This will be connected to, but will run separately from, the main X-Men franchise, and will focus on Deadpool and Cable. Cable, for the uninitiated, is a time travelling antihero, who is actually Cyclops’ son. Oh and he’s got a giant metal arm, so that he can open pickle jars mega easily.
Essentially, Deadpool and Cable are going to be the main dudes in the X-Force movie, which concerns a far less liberal bunch of mutants who take a more hardline approach with the bad guys. Also, it’s going to be a nice, adult, violent, sweary film just like Deadpool and Logan, because Fox, the owner of the properties, are finally, coming round to the idea that R-rated movies can still bring in the big bucks. So the pool of 12A-rated superhero movies will become a little more shallow in the near future, which is obviously great news.
Kinberg spoke to Deadline, and had this to say: “We take the R-rating on a case by case basis when the story warrants it and necessitates that rating, and shouldn’t be hemmed by the rules of PG or PG-13. Should a story be readily told in a PG-13 fashion, it should be for creative, not business reasons. The success of Deadpool and Logan have bolstered our confidence to make edgy, more daring, provocative bold movies that audiences will embrace.”
Basically, expect more gritty, violent superhero movies in the future, as well as more fart joke-centric, violent ones as well. It needs to be one or the other though, gritty and farts don’t go together very well, as anyone who’s ever had a gritty fart can tell you.
