I might as well preface this article by telling you that I have only ever seen one episode of Eastenders. It was for a school project, and I disliked it, and never watched it again. I tried again when old Danny Dyer started on it, but only lasted ten minutes – I don’t like Eastenders, is what I’m trying to say.
However, I do like Dean Gaffney. I like Dean Gaffney a lot. I first encountered him in The Club, aka one of the greatest reality TV shows to ever have aired in the UK. If you’re unaware, it’s the one that gave us this undeniable piece of televisual gold:
Anyway, I like him because he is very earnest and he always seems to be having the best time – just check out his Instagram for proof of this. So news that he’s coming back to Eastenders as his well-loved character Robbie Jackson, is good, I guess? I don’t know why I’m happy about it really, because I sure as hell am not going to watch it.
Either way, he said:
“I’m really happy to be back. I’m so lucky to be given the chance to work again with such a talented group of people. A big thank you to Sean and the team. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
And executive producer Sean O'Connor, said: "I’m thrilled to welcome back Dean as Robbie Jackson, one of EastEnders’ most loved and most popular characters. Bridge Street Market has never quite been the same without Robbie policing it in his hi-viz jacket. Dean brings a wonderful warmth and fun to his portrayal of Robbie and I’m sure that audiences will take him to their hearts again, just as they have always done.”
I have no idea if I agree with any of this, but whatever – he’s back! The man who refers to his own penis as “Wellard” is back. What a time to be alive.
Regardless of whether you care or not, at least we can all agree that this is hilarious:
