Diadora trainers are back and better than ever
The revamped retro trainers that will give adidas & Nike a run for their money
Diadora never really reached the level of hype that adidas, Kappa or Nike did in our youth. They were the type of trainers your gran bought for Christmas that quickly became your P.E footwear, because Stan Smiths were all you wore.
But, in 2016, where our love of nostalgia is so intense that we’re practically on the cusp of reverting back to Nokia 3210s and hunting our own food with spears, Diadora is back and better than ever, unveiling slick trainers that you’d only wear on the weekends, not while playing rounders.
It’s not just all retro throwbacks either, as their recent collab with Footpatrol takes inspiration from their Italian roots rather than their Nineties garishness. The Macchiato trainer comes in a rich beige and premium hairy suede, matching the milky foaminess of the European coffee, as well as taking in notes of prosecco and tiramisu, while the tongue is embroidered with a metallic Diadora logo and model number.
Footpatrol isn’t the only modern brand to team up with Diadora either, as Sneaker Freaker magazine has also revealed a collaboration to celebrate their 15th birthday too, recently revealing a glimpse of the Taipan, a snake-like update of the classic Diadora Sportswear shoe the V7000, featuring scaly textures and splashes of reptile purple, which drops 23 November.
So if Diadora can reinvent themselves (and Trump can be president), don’t be surprised to see A$AP Rocky wearing Lonsdale London slip-ons in 2017. Anything is possible.
