Films, games and more available to download now on PlayStation® Store.
Whether it’s on the go with your PS Vita, or from the comfort of your lounge on your PlayStation® 3, a trip to the breathtaking PlayStation® Store is a must. There, you’ll find everything from the latest games, the greatest films and much more.
GAME: Dust 514 (PS3)
If video games can be said to offer sweet escapism, there are few better free ways to get away from it all than by playing Dust 514. The space-set saga is a massive multiplayer first-person sci-fi shooter, free to play on PlayStation® 3. Developed by CCP Games – the company responsible for Eve Online – the graphics are beautifully rendered, with combat taking place on the same planets as Eve Online.
To begin your experience, you can either take your time to customise your infantry and vehicles before you start, or simply dive right in and fire away.
GAME: Retro city rampage (PS3, PS vita)
No one is above parody in this witty send-up of films and video games new and old. The run-and-gun gameplay only tells part of the story: the likes of Bill & Ted, Back To The Future, The Dark Knight and much more are cheekily referenced, while the chunky 8-bit graphics and old-school music will also transport you back to a more innocent age. Addictive and enjoyable.
GAME: GTA Vice City (PS3)
This hugely popular PS2 classic receives a PS3 re-release – coming soon – while managing to lose none of the Eighties-set magic that made it such a smash. Fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise are in for a treat. As you climb your way to the top of Liberty City there’s a wealth of big hair and pastel suits – the decade that taste gave a Chinese burn to has simply never looked so good.
FILM: Ted
Mark Wahlberg: is there anything he can’t do? Having cemented his dramatic leading man chops in The Fighter, he proved he could nail the laughs too in The Other Guys, his first full foray into comedy. However, his turn in Ted arguably took it up a notch, given his co-star was a CGI teddy bear. This gleefully filthy comedy about Boston native John Bennett (Wahlberg) and his real-life teddy bear (Seth MacFarlane) proved a box-office smash. If you missed it at the cinema, it’s a must-download.
FILM: Looper
Director Rian Johnson keeps the action and entertainment quotient high to ensure that any head-scratching and time-travelling conjecture is left until after the credits have rolled in what is one of the best films of 2012. Bruce Willis is sent back in time to kill a younger version of himself, expertly played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Pierce Gagnon is also memorable as gifted kid Cid, in an unpredictable film that stays with you.
SERIES: Homeland Seasons 1 & 2
Missed an episode but can’t face buying the entire box-set? Loved the show so much you wanted to download every episode anyway? Whatever you fancy, the PlayStation® Store caters to your every whim. And there are few better shows to download than awards-magnet Homeland, a perfect storm of twisting, compelling narrative, taut direction and first-rate acting. Damien Lewis, Mandy Patinkin and Clare Danes are equally memorable in this gripping, unpredictable saga about a US soldier (Lewis) returning from duty, having gone missing for eight years in Iraq. Bold, brave, brilliant, and worth the hype.
