Drinking alcohol actually slows down the aging process - hurrah!
Want to age like a fine wine? Try quaffing some.
A recent study carried out by researchers from the University of Iowa has found that people who drank one or two alcoholic drinks daily aged better than those who drank less - and even teetotallers.
The study, which examined the genetic make-up of 656 “European Americans” and 180 “African Americans” to measure the impact of tobacco and alcohol on a person’s genomes found that while all levels of smoking were “associated with accelerated biological ageing”, drinking did quite the opposite, slowing the body’s natural physical wear-and-tear.
But don’t go drinking straight from the bottle just yet…
Both low and excessive consumption were noted in the report as “linked to accelerated aging”, meaning that only a “moderate” use of alcohol is associated with healthy aging.
Which makes us all feel a lot less guilty about all that weeknight boozing.
