Dutch driving instructors are now able to accept sex as payment
“Wait, that’s not the handbrake.”
We’re not exactly sure what the Dutch translation is, but what we do know is that driving instructors in The Netherlands might be hearing this line a lot more frequently after the government passed a law allowing sex as payment.
So long as they are a student over the age of 18, the crudely named law Ride for a Ride effectively gives learner drivers given the same rights as prostitutes, which is of course a totally legal profession over there.
Though even for a super liberal country, unsurprisingly, this move hasn’t exactly been welcomed by everyone, with Gert-Jans Segers of the Christian Union Party one of the members of the Dutch parliament claiming that the practice should remain illegal.
Retorting, the Transport Minister for the Netherlands, Melanie Schultz van Haegen said: “It’s not about offering sexual activities for remuneration, but offering a driving lesson. It is important that the initiative lies with the driving instructor, and focuses on offering a driving lesson, with the payment provided in sexual acts.”
We'll we’ve got our own questions...
Will these sexual payments take place in the back of the car? Are we going to see a decrease in those famous bikes? Conversely, won't everyone become a driving instructor now? And, most worryingly of all, what happens when they reach a red light?
