It’s good to be reminded how brilliant Eminem is isn’t it?
He returned to the scene after a period of quiet with a bang last month with his now infamous freestyle takedown of Donald Trump at the BET Hip-Hop Awards before dropping his first new track in two years in the form of ‘Walk On Water’. The song featured Beyoncé and continued his current style, eschewing big beats for a more minimal, soulful, introspective feel.
And he duly went on Saturday Night Live this weekend to promote the track - and treated the audience to a stunning rendition of it, complete with a dip into his back catalogue, moving into ‘Stan’ and ‘Love The Way You Lie’.
Not only were the song choices impeccable, the performances - by Skylar Grey, who sung all the female vocal parts as well as playing piano, a beautiful string section and Em’s super tight backing group - were phenomenal.
Go on, treat yourself and check out the below, it’s good to be reminded of what genius is sometimes.
’Walk On Water’ is the first track of Eminem’s ninth (ninth!!) studio album, which will be called Revival and is expected to land sometime next year. Familiar faces are involved in production duties, with Dr Dre, Rick Rubin and Skylar Grey all believed to be involved.
