There are fewer more divisive issues in gaming than that of remakes: tired studios pimping out their old classics with a fresh lick of paint versus timely reminders of retro titles that deserve to be revisited. No matter which side you take on the (non)debate, this fan remake should unite both parties: a not-for-profit HD remake of Super Mario 64.
Created as something of a passion project by developers drawn together by a mutual love of Mario's Nintendo 64 outing, SM64 is a full high definition remake of the 1996 classic.
Using the original game engine, developers have been redrawing every surface, character model and texture of the original game with mountains of extra pixels: blocky surfaces are now curved, lighting has been improved - the grass is quite literally greener.
