Fan Who Paid £10K To Play For Club Lasts 10 Minutes

If we were James Gorfin, we wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry. Actually probably quite a lot of both.

The Macclesfield Town fan and businessman paid £10,000 for the chance to play for his team (pictured above, in action), but lasted just 10 minutes after a double injury blow.

He came on as a substitute for the Silkmen in a friendly against Premier League Stoke City, following a week's training with the side, but endured a crunching tackle, followed by a groin injury after over-reaching for a cross which he narrowly failed to convert.

Gorfin said after the game, "I think everyone reckons they could do better when watching a game but it’s not as easy as that. You think you’d have loads of time on the ball but it’s pretty mental how quick the game is...I was pretty gutted, it would have been unbelievable if I’d got on the end of that and scored."

The experience hasn't put him off, however, as he continued, "before I left, I did mention that if they ever get really short they could give me a ring... I don’t expect they’ll ever be that short though!"
