When a movie’s been 12 years in the making, describing it as “much-anticipated” seems like a bit of an understatement. The good news here is that Boyhood is well on the way to satisfying any long-held expectations.
Below is the first trailer; Sundance critics have yelped “a unique work in American cinema” and “an audacious feat of filmmaking” into their notebooks and murmurs suggest this one should make an impression on the Academy next March.
Linklater (who also wrote the script) has assembled the cast annually since 2004 following the journey of Mason (Ellar Coltrane) who grows up organically and dramatically throughout the film. He’s ably supported by Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and Lori Linklater.
Boyhood is released in UK cinemas on July 11
