It’s already being talked up for the awards season – and we haven’t even seen the trailer. Until now, of course.
Oscar blogs were all a-froth earlier this year when it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio was on board to star as J. Edgar Hoover in a biopic of the first director of the FBI, helmed by the not inconsiderable Clint Eastwood.
Now we can see the first glimpses of Leo as Hoover, and even as Hoover Senior, donning some slightly dodgy-looking prosthetics.
The Oscar talk is, of course, most premature, but biopics have always proved prime quarry for gongs over the years, while Clint and DiCaprio is a potential dreamteam.
It looks as though the thorny issue of Hoover’s oft-disputed sexuality will be at the forefront of the film too, with The Social Network’s Armie Hammer starring at Clyde Tolson, the man who was J. Edgar’s bessie mate, right hand and associate director of the FBI.
Naomi Watts and Judi Dench also star.
It will be released on January 20th in the UK.
