First look at Ricky Gervais in David Brent: Life on the Road
“Live fast, sure, live too bloody fast sometimes, but die young? Die old."
As we get our first eyeful of David Brent: Life on The Road, above, it's nice to see Slough's finest is still adhering to at least one of those principals as filming begins on the forthcoming mockumentary.
Much like how Alan Partridge’s recent cinematic odyssey was firmly UK-set, fans of The Office will be somewhat reassured Ricky Gervais' Brent hasn’t gone all Hollywood either, with the five week shoot slated in take place in London and Slough - the trademark goatee still intact.
Now a travelling salesman, the former Wernham Hogg manager is still chasing his dream of rock stardom and now finds himself about to head out on a self-financed UK tour with his old band, Foregone Conclusion, who you may remember for such hits as Free Love Freeway, and more recently the ‘political reggae’ song Equality Street.
Also written and directed by Gervais, the BBC Films production will give us a new look into the life of Brent, from new office colleagues – love-struck Pauline (Jo Hartley; This Is England ’90), partner in crime Nigel (Tom Bennet; Phoneshop), 9-5 nemesis (Andrew Brook; Babylon) – to his therapist (Nina Sosanya; Love Actually), who’ll doubtlessly have her hands full as he copes with the emotional weight of his comeback tour.
Expect to see Brent hitting the free love freeway - or rather the M4 between J11 and J12 - in late 2016.
