Fresh from a film which saw him drive down a motorway for 90 odd minutes, Tom Hardy’s next acting challenge is going to involve a similar level of patience: he's playing The Kray twins. Plural.
And as this first look snap suggests, however it ends up, he's certainly nailed the intimidating frames of infamous London gangsters Ronnie and Reggie, making us forget all about the forgettable 90s biopic starring one half of Spandau Ballet, and instead get tremendously excited about Legend - the title for the forthcoming 60s-set thriller.
Joining Hardy in the cast will be Christopher Eccleston, David Thewlis and Emily Browning, while the man tasked with directing Hardy (twice, technically) is Brian Helgeland, screenwriter of LA Confidential and Mystic River.
Given Armie Hammer’s terrific ‘Winklevi’ portrayal in The Social Network, there’s no doubt that current feats of cinematic technology will allow Hardy to play two leads seamlessly. And looking at him in this shot, who would argue with him?
