Here's our first look at Taron Egerton as Elton John in 'Rocketman'
Shock! He actually looks like him!
Weird that there’s not been a big Elton John biopic already, isn’t it? One of the most famous and influential musicians in the world, and no film about him, strange. Anyway, there is now, and stepping into the sequined boots is a one Taron Egerton, that bloke from the Kingsman movies which you’ll have seen. The man-of-the-moment, he is - he’s Robin Hood, next.
Anyway, we’ve now got our first official piccie of Egerton in all his garb, and should you be interested, you’ll find it below:
Lairy jacket, check; nonsense shoes, check; gaudy glasses, check; Norwood 3, check - yep, that’s Elton John alright. Egerton has good track record with somehow managing to look exactly like the real-life person he’s playing, even though he doesn’t look like them in real life - just look at his wonderful turn in Eddie The Eagle as proof.
Rocketman will focus on Elton’s early years in the music bizz and his subsequent rise to international stardom, tackling issues like drug addiction along the way - so, “a music biopic”, then. Joining Egerton on the cast are Jamie Bell (as Elton’s lyricist, Bernie Taupin), Bryce Dallas Howard (as his mum, Sheila Eileen) and other man-of-the-moment, Bodyguard’s Richard Madden (as John’s manager). Behind the camera is Eddie The Eagle’s director, Dexter Fletcher (who is also fresh from completing another music biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, after original and problematic director Bryan Singer, was fired. Interestingly, though Singer will still get the director credit).
Good little cast there, we think you’ll agree. Whether they can work together to make a good film? Well, we’ll find out on May 31, 2019.
