The first taster of what we can expect from Baz Luhrmann’s ‘70s New York set Netflix series has arrived, just after it was announced.
The Get Down, a thirteen episode series set to be released in 2016, will follow the lives of a group of South Bronx teenagers as a virtually bankrupt New York City is giving birth to hip-hop, punk and disco.
In a statement, Luhrmann said: “In this golden era of TV, the Netflix culture puts no constraint on creative possibilities. So it is a natural home for The Get Down, a project I have been contemplating and working on now for over 10 years.”
The trailer doesn’t give much away but what we can say for certain is that there will be absolutely no singing from Ewan Mcgregor, which is a definite plus. He's just the latest in a long line of talent that's been snapped up by the streaming service, including Adam Sandler, Jane Fonda, Tina Fey and the Wachowskis.
