2017 is set to get seriously funky.
The 1991 adventure game triumph ToeJam & Earl is set be dusted off with a retro-themed sequel, Back in the Groove.
The fourth instalment in the series, the new title describes itself as a mash-up of the best elements of the initial two releases (1991's ToeJam & Earl, 1993's ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron).
Developed by Adult Swim (we didn't know they made games either), here's how they describe Back in the Groove: "TJ decides it’s a good idea to “borrow” the Rapmaster Rocketship from Lamont (no point waking him up, right?), so he and Big E. can take Latisha and Lewanda out for a joyride. While they’re in orbit around Earth, maybe showing off just a little, TJ tells Earl to crank the bass on the speakers and “Press the RED button!” Unfortunately, that’s the button that says: “Black Hole - Do Not Press!!” (Doh!) You can pretty much guess the rest, TJ and Earl once again find themselves searching for the pieces of their Rocketship, collecting power-up presents left lying around by Santa, and dealing with the less-than-rational human beings."
That, backed up by the antics shown off in the below trailer, has us counting down the months until... wait, they haven't given a more specific date than '2017'? We're off to dig out the Mega Drive from our parents' attic...
