Fox is having another go at a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a bad film.
It wasn't a "guilty pleasure" level of awful - it was career ending. It made Sean Connery retire from the film industry altogether.
"It was a nightmare," he once told The Times. "The experience had a great influence on me; it made me think about showbiz. I get fed up dealing with idiots."
Yet 2003's failure doesn't look to have put 20th Century Fox off this band of curious brothers. Variety has word that the studio is looking to reboot the project, which was always hoped would develop into a fully-fledged franchise.
Producers Ira Napoliello and Matt Reilly are heading up the remake based on Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill's comic series (1999 to present), which splices together various fantastical characters from Gothic, Victorian literature. The plot of 2003's film included the likes of Dorian Gray, Mina Harker (Dracula), Captain Nemo and Dr Henry Jekyll/Edward Hyde.
Moore and O'Neill's novel of steampunk high jinx certainly has the depth to spawn a decent film adaptation - Fox even planned a TV series around the material, which never went beyond pilot phase.
Does the alternative Victorian-era fantasy deserve another try or is Fox flogging a long-dead horse? Let us know your thoughts with our poll below.
