There was a time when the highlight of our week would be hearing an excessively theatrical voice congratulating us on killing a wave of enemy troops: "Double kill!" would be followed by "Triple kill!" - by the time we hit "Over kill!" we'd be halfway off the sofa in a pose of triumph. Simple, childish pleasures.
Should this make no sense to you, the latest trailer for Halo 5: Guardians' multiplayer will help give some context. The latest chapter in the immensely successful Halo franchise is promising to raise the bar of multiplayer gaming by the same order of magnitude as Halo 2 - lofty claims, furthered by the following 70 seconds of Blue vs Red madness.
Set to go live with a mass beta test at the end of December, the Guardians' experience will offer classic Halo staples (balanced weapons, melee beat downs and superb maps) alongside a raft of new features - including powered charge kills and a heap of new boom sticks.
We'll see you in the New Year on the beta. We'll be the team in the corner running into the walls.
Halo 5: Guardians is yet to gain a confirmed release date in 2015
