It’s not every day you’re given something for free, so when you’re offered a fantastic book by a great London author, you should grab it with both hands, obviously. And that’s exactly what’s happening tomorrow to celebrate World Book Day.
On Thursday 1 March, London’s Big Read will be leaving six books on tubes and trains across the city, according to Time Out. On the list are really interesting books about being British in the UK today by Civilisations co-presenter David Olusoga and broadcaster June Sarpong.
These are the six books to keep an eye out for:
1. Self Made by Bianca Miller-Cole and Byron Cole
2. Brit(ish) by Afua Hirsh
3. Julius Caesar and Me by Paterson Joseph
4. The Belt Boy by Kevin Lueshing and Mike Dunn
5. Black and British by David Olusoga
6. Diversify by June Sarpong
This means that tomorrow is the one day of the year that you don’t have to feel guilty about pinching something from the Tube. If it’s one of these books, it’s OK; TAKE IT AND LEARN SOME CULTURE!
But if you don’t get lucky and find one of these books you can still pick up a freebie by heading to Library London in Covent Garden from 7.30am, where you can take part in a book swap.
Just bring a book you no longer need and swap it with any of the six books shortlisted for London’s Big Read. It’s that simple.
And all books swapped at Library London will be shipped to Zimbabwe and donated to Ndoro’s Children’s Charities. You’ll be reading and doing some good for charity… perfect!
