French Connection and Shortlist invite you to a screening of Baby Driver
Revisit one of the best films of 2017 to celebrate the launch of French Connection’s AW17 collection
Existentialism might not be the most obvious point of reference for a new menswear range, but French Connection’s AW17 collection takes influence from 1950s France, the time when Parisian cafés hummed with artists, writers and philosophers such as Camus and Sartre.
Harking back to the brand’s heritage and a period of unfettered French creativity, there’s a pleasing mix-and-match feel to the new collection. It’s all about sartorial slovenliness, with durable workwear jackets and practical wide-leg trousers paired with timeless Breton stripes, slogan tees and subtly oversized shirts. In short, the collection is nudging the ‘French’ firmly back into French Connection.
To mark the arrival of the AW17 collection, ShortList has teamed up with French Connection for an exclusive screening of Edgar Wright’s acclaimed heist movie Baby Driver (out on DVD and Blu-ray 13 November). The director’s first film in four years follows talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) who, after meeting ‘the one’ (Lily James), sees his chance to escape his criminal existence. However, chilling crime boss (Kevin Spacey) has other ideas and a doomed heist threatens Baby’s hopes of a way out. Naturally, car chases are aplenty as are Wright’s trademark stylistic scenes acccompanied by an iconic soundtrack, including the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Beck.
