It has been more than 20 years since The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air came off air, but it’s the kind of show most of us still think about on a regular basis.
The comedy remains Will Smith’s finest work (yes, better than the Men in Black franchise, fight me) and we all celebrated when it finally came to UK Netflix.
It taught us a lot of important lessons during its six-year run, including the fact that actors from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Airdon’t noticeably age.
Sure, it might not need a reboot, but it may well be getting one… albeit with a major difference from the original.
As reported by TMZ, the company which owns the rights to the show has been busy registering a lot of trademarks around the words ‘Fresh Princess’.
Does this mean a female-fronted reboot is in the works? Well, if it is then they’re going the right way about it.
The trademark applications cover TV and other media, but also a whole host of merchandise including clothes, bags and even animal collars.
If there’s a base they haven’t covered, we haven’t thought of it.
The response has, as you might have guessed, been mixed.
There will always be folks worried about the legacy of the original being ruined…
But others seem to think a significant change to the format would be enough to ensure Smith’s original ‘90s show can remain untainted.
We’ve also seen the inevitable suggestions for casting the reboot, if it does ever come to fruition, and one idea stands out above all else.
Make it happen.
