Did you know that the life expectancy of a Game of Thrones character is lower than that of an 18th century asthmatic coal miner?
To highlight the fragile state of life in everyone's favourite fantasy series, HBO have commissioned British artist Robert M Ball to create one deathly work for every episode of Game of Thrones to date.
Entitled Beautiful Death, each macabre piece focuses on the major death of the episode in question, with one new piece revealed each day in a count down to season four's premier. Where instalments haven't featured a bloody departure, an equally grim visage has been chosen instead (season one episode three was comparatively easy going, but it still gets a terrifying three-eyed crow).
Below is Ball's complete set for series one. Head over to his site to check out more of his work. We'll post the full set for series two once it's complete.
