Gene Wilder's most stylish onscreen looks
A tribute to the best outfits the late comedian wore on the big screen
Comedy genius Gene Wilder has sadly passed away at the age of 83 after battling Alzheimer's, going off to Join David Bowie, Prince, Alan Rickman and all the other legends we've lost this year.
Although most will remember Wilder for his iconic role in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory donning a debonair purple velvet jacket that has been immortalized into a sarcastic meme, we're here to argue that this outfit doesn't even come close to being his most stylish.
From Blazing Saddles to The World's Greatest Lover, take a look at Gene Wilder's best onscreen looks below and see if you agree...
Young Frankenstein
Gene, you don't need to surround yourself with badly dressed minions, your silk smoking dressing gown is more stylish than most bespoke suits.
The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother
Bog-standard ties? Pffft, too mainstream. Here Wilder plays Sherlock's smarter and sharper brother wearing a floral continental tie.
Blazing Saddles
Gene was wearing wide brimmed hats and bandannas way before the hipsters. We'd go as far to say he invented skinny jeans and flat whites, too.
The Producers
Before pinstripe suits were tarnished by coked up bankers with a love for shoulder pads, Gene rocked a fitted style that's more sartorial gangster than Wolf of Wall Street.
The Little Prince
Look at this child trying to outshine Gene in his regal overcoat. Nice try kiddo, but his suave belted jacket is superior to yours in every way.
Something Wilder
In another life he would've made an exceptional heavy metal frontman in that leather jacket and grown out wispy hair. The Wilder Boys?
The World's Greatest Lover
Nothing quite says ballin' like a pale three piece suit with matching fedora. Look at that confidence, he doesn't care if he spills coffee on that light fabric.
Everythign You Always Wanted To Know About Sex
Some seventies ties are an absolute abomination, but even in the age of brash colours and oversized everything he manages to find a timeless geometric print.
