Guillermo Del Toro well and truly ends the speculation about Hellboy 3
Big Red fans, it's not good news
Guillermo del Toro has a thoroughly miserable message for anyone out there still holding out for a third Hellboy movie: it ain’t happening.
The Mexican director helmed both Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008), and for the best part of a decade fans have been optimistically holding out for him to complete the trio.
But as is the way with a lot of pop culture announcements these days, del Toro took to Twitter confirm that the movie would not be happening.
Just last month he promised his 602k-strong Twitter following that if a poll received over 100,000 votes he would approach Ron Perlman - who played the superhero in both previous movies - and creator Mike Mignola for discussions about a third entry. Perlman in particular seemed like he could be persuaded.
Back in 2014 del Toro hosted a Reddit AMA, and explained in a reply that it was proving difficult to secure financial backing. It’s not clear what caused the latest (and, it would appear, final) production hiccup, but it’s time to move on and accept that the wise-cracking demon-shaped hole in the comic book movie market isn't about to be filled.
