I am bald ,which is not a problem for me but my scalp gets very greasy. How can I stop this?

Danny

Our expert Ahmed Zambarakji answers your questions below:

Hi Danny,

There are loads of products out there that can help with the overproduction of sebum, whether it's on the scalp or on your skin. A slightly astringent product like Philip Kingsley’s Scalp Tonic (£9.20 from philipkingsley.co.uk - picture 3), should help mop up any excess oil. But if you’ve still got a bit of hair on the sides and shampoo every now and then, then opt for Aveda’s Men Pure-formance Exfoliating Shampoo (£18 for 200ml from aveda.co.uk - picture 2), which works like a face scrub and does a great job of shedding dead skin and breaking down impurities.

Darren Fowler, Director of Hair Salon Clipso (clipso.co.uk), suggests Kerastase’s Bain Clarifiant (£12.65 from 250ml feelunique.com - picture 1), though it doesn’t have the scrubbing effect of the Aveda shampoo. If you’re completely bald and don’t ever shampoo, Fowler simply suggests treating the scalp like the skin on your face. That means washing it daily with a cleanser, using a toner and even slapping on a bit of sunscreen if you’re going out in the sun. Trichologist Philip Kingsley also recommends cutting back on the amount of dairy and fatty foods as your diet usually has an impact on sebum production.
