There's one main reason why we like Harry Judd: his band is named after Back To The Future's lead character.
Our obsession with 80s movies aside, there are a few other reasons why we like the chap. Harry is a talented fellow, not only is he a superb drummer for his record-breaking band McFly, he's also a fantastic dancer (winner of 2011's Strictly Come Dancing, no less). Oh and he's running the London Marathon.
Despite the fact we were harbouring feelings of inadequacy, we decided to ask Harry about his guilty pleasure film, TV show, album, song, food, magazine and website, to see if we could make him look bad (spoiler: we couldn't).
Harry is running the London Marathon this year in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust and The Eyes Alight Appeal. To support him, visit his Virgin Money Giving page or text HARRY to 70300 to donate £3.
Film
Moulin Rouge. I don’t know, I just love it. I guess it's because I find it really romantic and moving and the music’s incredible. The Elephant Love Medley and the Come What May duet, me and my wife like to sing it in the car. Oh yeah, and Your Song, sung by Ewan McGregor. I really like his and Nicole Kidman’s voices. It’s a very passionate film, it's got a very Romeo and Juliet style ending.
TV Show
Does The Big Reunion count? I’d pick that because I know a few of the people on that show, and I can relate to it. You know, when we started 10 years ago a lot of them were still around and we were doing shows with them so yeah, it’s really interesting. The most fascinating thing is hearing them talk about what it was like to be in a band and what went wrong and why they split up. I guess it's intriguing to see what it’s like for people who’ve had that success and then had it taken away from them. That’s the same fear you’d have being in McFly, you know, imagine if that all got taken away from you and how would you deal with that? Good on them for doing it.
Album
I’m not embarrassed by anything music wise. I like One Direction but I also like Rage Against the Machine and Slipknot too. I was into all sorts of music when I was a teenage, even stuff like N'Sync. But I guess the Wicked soundtrack is one of my favourite albums. I can’t even choose a favourite song from that album, it would be like choosing between my mum and dad. I’ve seen the show probably about six or seven times.
Song
Definitely not Gangham Style. You won’t catch me listening to that. But Would I Lie To You by Charles and Eddie is the best. I'll listen to that in my car over and over. The rest of the band love it too. When we were on a recent trip Tom made this Nutella cheesecake – his Nutella cheesecake is so unbelievably tasty – so we were like let’s listen to Charles and Eddie. It was the best soundtrack to our Nutella cheesecake and it made it an incredible experience. We just put it on repeat. We were on a downer after it though.
Food
It's got to be the Nutella cheesecake. Tom cuts out these huge, chunky slices and all I’m thinking is ‘give me another slice!’. The base is digestives, not rich teas, so they’re all crumbly. And the top bit is Nutella mixed with Philadelphia, I think. You’ll have to ask him. But honestly, it’s insane it’s so delicious. I should be eating wholemeal carbs and white meat and fish, as I’m on a strict diet for training, but I’m not too good with that. I just have a sweet tooth. I should be cutting out all sugar but that’s just not happening, because when we’re doing a photo shoot or a TV show there’s always crisps and chocolate and sweets around. And the problem is, is that I can’t just have one. I eat the whole bloody thing.
Magazine
Hello, OK, and Heat. All those. I don’t subscribe or anything but I like having a good nosey. It’s a bit like Facebook for famous people isn’t it? If you see someone you know who’s been in the magazine you might see them and say ‘oh, yeah, you’ve been up to this, haven’t you’ and they’ll say ‘how’d you know’ - ‘because I saw it in a magazine’.
Website
I love YouTube. I look at a lot of drumming videos and steal their ideas. Sometimes I check out people’s covers, and McFly covers as well. Some of the stuff is quite bad - there are a few shocking ones - but also a few good ones too. It’s dangerous because you can end up looking at it for over an hour and then be like ‘shit, I’ve got to go’.
