Harry Styles’ Carpool Karaoke with James Corden is an utter joy
He's joined the likes of Elton John and Adele in appearing on it alone
Now he’s gone solo, Harry Styles is really is moving up in the world – he’s even calling shotgun.
Having already once appeared on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke, perched in the back as part of a One Direction convoy, yesterday the singer found himself back once again, riding up front where he has “more control over the buttons”.
Styles, who has been in residency on Corden’s Late Late Show for a whole week, now joins the ranks of solo artists including Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Justin Bieber, and Adele in appearing on the segment alone, and proves brilliant value, belting out a few tunes from his new debut album before moving into Outkast’s Hey Ya.
As ever, Corden holds his own in the vocal stakes, and even challenges Styles to act out a few famous romantic scenes from film. If that wasn’t enough, the pair finish on a stirring singalong of Lionel Richie and Diana Ross duet Endless Love – the former One D man’s actual karaoke choice.
If the chemistry seems natural, well, it is: the pair’s friendship goes back years, all the way back to when Corden worked with Liam Payne’s late mum Johannah Deakin on Fat Friends:
"I knew Louis ‘cause his mom was a chaperone on a TV show I'd done, she would look after the young kids on the show,” the host revealed last week. “She reached out to me and said, ‘My son is in London, and he doesn’t know anyone can I just give him your number in case something happens?’ and I said, ‘Of course.’ And so they [Harry and Louis] would come over to our house, and we'd have pizza and play FIFA, and my wife would feel like she was babysitting all of us and this was before I got married."
In the interview, Corden also touched on his relationship with Harry, saying, “We've known young Harold since he was 17 years old… Harry was at my wedding, and I love him dearly, I love him absolutely dearly, and I’m so proud.”
