Check out the trailer for Michael Caine's Hatton Garden robbery flick 'King of Thieves'
The story of the heist of the century
Back in 2015, a bunch of elderly men robbed a big safe in Hatton Garden, London, and made off with about £200 million, making it “the largest burglary in English legal history”. Well done them, until they were all caught and put in prison, anyway.
This being an extremely interesting story, it has of course been made into two films already - 2016’s Hatton Garden: The Heist and the slightly more high-profile The Hatton Garden Job, starring Larry Lamb.
Well now there’s another one! And this time it’s the most high-profile of all, because it’s packed to the rafters with stars, including Michael Caine, Paul Whitehouse, Michael Gambon, Ray Winstone, Jim Broadbent and Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox.
Here’s the trailer, in case you were getting anxious about its whereabouts:
They’ve gone down the comedy route with this one (compared to the relatively straight movies before it), and it looks good, doesn’t it? That’s a top cast that, and there’s more of the same quality behind the cameras, too - it’s directed by The Theory of Everything’s James Marsh and written by Mindhunter’s Joe Penhall.
But that’s not all your Hatton Garden action, oh no! There’s yet another adaptation set to hit screens this year - a four part mini-series starring Timothy Spall called Hatton Garden.
Maybe stop after that one, yeah? Unless you reboot it as a martial arts film starring Jet Li or something. That would be good. Actually, do that.
