Twitter just made it a whole lot easier to find brilliant cat GIFs
Sit back and watch your feed fill with funny shorts of cats acting like jerks and American TV references you don't really understand
Twitter is pulling out all the stops in its efforts to stimulate some much needed growth.
Following the launch of Moments and a new Timeline, the social media network has just released a seriously cool new tool: GIF search.
Set to roll out across iOS, Android and Twitter.com in coming weeks, the GIF search function will be immediately familiar to anyone who's used a similar tool on apps such as Tinder.
The new tool searches the vast bank of GIFs stored on GIPHY and Riffsy: pop in a search term like "hungry" or "cats" and you'll be presented with a series of results tagged with such a phrase.
Here's how to grab a GIF on Android or iOS devices:
- Head to Compose Tweet
- Tap the GIF button (the little one that says GIF between the Photo and Poll buttons - if it's not there, you might need to update the app)
- Type in a search term or tag for the sort of GIF you're looking for. Cats are so hot right now
- Select your GIF from the results
- Hit the image and it'll pop full screen. You can then tap to tweet.
Note that GIFs can't be attached to tweets that already have images attached. You can use the above process for Direct Messages as well.
There you have it. You can now sit back and watch your feed fill with funny shorts of cats acting like jerks and American TV references you don't really understand.
