Watch Hillary Clinton's concession speech

“Crooked”, “nasty” Hillary Clinton now, inexplicably, has another adjective to add to her resume: defeated. 

The former secretary of state, former first lady, is set to deliver her concession speech from New York, following her remarkable loss to Republican Donald Trump (218 electoral votes to Trump’s 289). Her running mate Tim Kaine is currently addressing the assembled supporters and media.

“Last night, I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country,” said Clinton. “I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans. This is not the outcome that we wanted or worked so hard for, and I’m sorry… but I feel pride and gratitude for this wonderful campaign that we built together. This vast, diverse, creative, unruly and energised campaign. You represent the best of America and being your candidate has been one of the greatest honours of my life.”

“This is painful, and it will be for a long time. But I want you to remember this. Our campaign was never about one person... it was about building a country that we love... We have seen that our country was more deeply divided than we ever thought…

“We’ve spent a year-and-a-half bringing together millions of people… We believe the American dream is big enough for everyone.

“And to all the women.. who put their faith in this campaign and me... I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion. I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but I know someday someone will, and hopefully sooner than we might think right now. And to all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable... and deserving of every chance... to pursue your own dreams.”
