Hotel where Jeremy Clarkson punched Top Gear producer unveils plaque to mark the event

He came, he saw, he punched someone in the face over a hot dinner.

When Jeremy Clarkson assaulted Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon inside a Yorkshire hotel earlier this year, the presenter’s deplorable actions had far bigger implications than simply a soiled steak and colleague with a fat lip.

The events of that day echoed far beyond the Yorkshire valleys, triggering a frantic search for a new presenter on one of the world’s best loved shows as Chris Evans eventually emerged as Clarkson’s successor, while he, Hammond and May defected to Amazon Prime for what sounds like the GDP of a small country.

Now this notable date has been immortalised forever, with the Simonstone Hall hotel unveiling a plaque that reads: “Here lies the BBC career of Jeremy Clarkson who had a fracas on this spot, 4th March 2015. The rest is legend.”

Admittedly not built by the hotel but rather a few visitors who happened to be Top Gear fans, the hotel staff took it in good spirits, announcing via their Facebook page that the plaque would sit atop the patio where the fracas took place.

Maybe Tymon, who's now taken legal action against Clarkson and the Beeb, ordered it himself.

If so, revenge really is a dish best served cold.
