Idris Elba has distanced himself from those Bond rumours
Maybe we won't get to see the man as Bond, after all
Last week we spoke of the rumours floating about the old net, concerning a supposed conversation between director Antoine Fuqua and Bond producer Barbara Broccoli which pointed towards plans to have Idris step into the famed spy’s shoes.
Thing is though, it turns out the rumours were entirely unsubstantiated. A rep for Fuqua has spoken out about the stories, telling The Hollywood Reported:
“He never had a conversation with Barbara about the franchise or about any casting. It’s all made up stuff. Not sure how it got started.”
Idris has now also spoken up, tweeting the following on Sunday:
Amazing use of a dad filter, there - love it. He also followed it up with this:
Like, that’s as good as saying “I will not be playing James Bond”, right?
This isn’t the first time Elba has dismissed rumours he’s to play Bond. In 2016, he told Good Morning America:
“I think I’m too old for that.
“I keep saying if it were to happen it would be the will of a nation because there haven’t been any talks between me and the studio about any of that. Running around in cars and ladies and martinis, who wants to do that? Sounds terrible.”
So that’s that put to bed. At least until someone makes up a new rumour. And then another one. And another one. And eventually he simply gives in and plays James Bond. Never underestimate the power of the internet.
