Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare has been revealed in Los Angeles. We were there to hear all about it…
Right now in Los Angeles, millions of dollars are being spent on massive billboards, huge statues and giant screens belching out trailers – all in the name of promoting upcoming video games at E3. We’re not saying it’s the only thing happening – there’s also an exhibition about Route 66 at the Autry National Center, for example – but it’s E3 we’re concentrating on here.
And the game that’s creating some of the highest decibel levels on the show floor? The next Call Of Duty. What else? It is the world’s biggest annual franchise.
In full, the next game is titled Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare, an obvious nod to the all-conquering Modern Warfare trilogy of games. Set in 2054, you’re Private Mitchell – a young recruit in the US Marines who we meet engaging with invading enemies on US soil. The mission is a success. At least overall – not for Mitchell, who’s badly injured, unable to fight and discharged from the Corps.
But that brings other opportunities – specifically with Atlas, the world’s largest private military company.
It also brings him shiny new technology, the best of which is a sophisticated exoskeleton allowing him to not only to fight again, but also giving him new tactical abilities in the field.
Such as? Well, such as an increased jumping ability. He can also hover, carry two primary weapons (rather than just one and a handgun) and has extra strength, which he can use to interact with the environment – ripping doors off cars to use as shields.
Oh, and it has a cloaking function. That’s pretty big – good job we didn’t forget that. All this is the big new idea the development team is shouting about. Twelve months ago it was about being able to play as a dog (no really), which wowed precisely no one. This is better.
Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be released on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC in November
