Is This The Future Of Virtual Reality Video Games?
We're still not sure what virtual reality is for. Google Glass sounded kind of fun, but it's proved about as popular as a poke in the eye with a 3D printed stick, while Sony, Microsoft and Oculus keep teasing us with details on mad goggle experiences that still aren't quite ready.
However, if this demo from secretive VR company Magic Leap is anything to go by, virtual reality could provide the gaming industry a leap forward comparable to swapping a game of 'Rock, Paper, Scissor' for a Game Boy.
Despite pulling out of a recent TED Talk for reasons undisclosed, the Google-backed Magic Leap took to YouTube to show off a video of a game concept it's apparently been "playing around the office right now".
The video proceeds to demonstrate a mixed reality game, in which the player - wearing Magic Leap's VR glasses - can pick up a gun and proceed to shoot down waves of robots that aren't really there. If it's just a concept tease that's never going to become a reality (highly likely), it's a mean one. If Magic Leap really are killing their lunch hours with this, it's going to blow our minds.
