Some 35 years after enslaving a bikini-clad Princess Leia in the 1983 film Return of the Jedi, slimy crime lord Jabba the Hutt is set to make a triumphant return.
According to reports, Jabba – a gross, toad-like gangster with an insatiable appetite – will appear in the upcoming prequel film Solo: A Star Wars Story.
A film insider told The Sun: “It’s a huge secret, but Jabba is returning to the Star Wars universe. Fans will learn why Han ended up owing him so much money.
“Jabba is so synonymous with the franchise.”
Solo, which will be released in the UK on 25 May, will take us back in time and tell how Han Solo first met Chewbacca and the moment they came across the obese villain.
When asked about which characters would be in Solo, Oscar-winning Star Wars visual effects artist Ben Morris added: “Jabba the Hutt would be a good guess. If I say any more I will get into trouble.”
*Wink, wink*
That sounds pretty much like confirmation if you ask me.
So what else do we know about the upcoming film?
Alden Ehrenreich is stepping into Han Solo’s shoes, Donald Glover is donning Lando Calrissian’s moustache and Woody Harrelson is playing someone called Beckett, a mentor figure to Solo.
Disney have also released an official synopsis:
“Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.”
