January's White Trainer Obsession

January's White Trainer Obsession

January's White Trainer Obsession
12 January 2015

Puddles. Puddles as far as the eye can see. Yet that hasn't stopped an abundance of trainer labels swelling 2015's shelves with a glut of pristine, all-white models.

From glowing runners to flawless posing shoes, the overriding trend is one of sterilised cleanliness: impossibly bright rubber soles, glistening leathers, with just a hint of off-white to mix up the textures and tones.

We've selected some of our favourites from the blinding releases revealed so far. And when you do pick up that first scuff, remember, we'll be here for you.

The literal runaway success of 2014, the high-tech, light-weight pallet of the adidas ZX Flux has been subjected to a stern bleaching with a new "white on white on white" colourway. While you can print just about anything on the woven fabric of this runner, this latest release shows that the Flux looks its best with minimal colouring.

Nike has been doing wonders for the lost art of mummification since it launched its Free Inneva Tech - a woven, nylon webbed trainer that clings to the natural shape of your foot rather than trying to squash it into conformity. This trainer of the Pharaohes will launch online on 15 January.

Celebrating the China's suitably woolly new calendar theme, Vans' Year of the Sheep pack includes a wool-lined reworking of the Sk8-Hi high top. The use of sheep leather makes these already pillowy trainers even more inviting.

French fashion house Balenciaga has updated its effortlessly cool Arena high top with a denim effect white leather finish. White-on-white panels are broken up by spans of black lacquered piping, picking out the shoe's lines. A designer sneaker, these threaten to be something of a dirt magnet.

There's only one colour you should consider buying a tennis shoe in - and it's a nightmare to keep clean. That said, we doubt the latest edition of le coq sportif's Author Ashe is a "working" tennis model. The full white is limited to a release of 136 models, so you'll have to move quickly if you want to nab a pair.

Despite having "Team America" emblazoned on their tongue, there's nothing wooden about the new MCN Americana. adidas Originals' 84-Lab. and Mark McNairy have joined forces once again to revive a classic archive high top, reworked in a white mesh. And yes, there is some grey suede on the toe, but we're willing to overlook that if you are.
