Jim Carrey: Tommy Lee Jones Hated Me During Batman Forever
They were supposed to be the twin evil geniuses that teamed up against the caped crusader in Batman Forever, but it's long been known that Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones did not get on during the making of the 1995 movie - but now Carrey has revealed the exact depth of ill-feeling from Jones toward him.
In an interview on the Howard Stern show to promote Dumb and Dumber To, he revealed what happened on the first meeting between the two of them, who were due to play The Riddler and Two-Face.
Carrey said that he, "walked into a restaurant the night before our big scene in The Riddler’s lair. [The maître d informed Carrey that Tommy Lee Jones was also in the restaurant.] I went up to say hi and the blood drained from his face, in such a way that I realised that I had become the face of his pain or something. He got up, kind of shaking and hugged me and said ‘I hate you. I really don’t like you.’ And I was like ‘Wow, okay. Well, what’s going on man?’ And he said, ‘I cannot sanction your buffoonery.’...I said, ‘I think this part requires that the tone of this thing is kind of childlike evil and stuff, and I think you might have trouble there, so I wish you the best.'”
It clearly didn't affect things too much - the film pulled in $330m at the box office and was largely critically well-received. Listen to the whole story in the clip below.
