Joan Allen taking the lead in new Stephen King movie

It's been a surprisingly long time since we last saw a Stephen King movie up on the big screen. In fact, we have to think back all the way to 2007 when The Mist arrived and scared us all silly.

But the next couple of years is going to be packed to the rafters with King-penned films. As well as the much-anticipated Carrie remake, we now have official casting news on A Good Marriage.

Oscar nominee Joan Allen, recently seen in a fleeting role in The Bourne Legacy, has signed on for the lead role as a wife who makes a grisly discovery in her garage that causes her to question her marriage.

Based on a short story that was seen in the 2010 anthology Full Dark, No Stars, it's a psychological thriller that is set to be directed by Peter Askin, best known for a load of films you've never even seen. Reassuringly, the screenplay will be penned by King himself so we're hoping for the best.

Joan Allen is also known for her work in The Ice Storm, The Contender and The Notebook and the film will start shooting in New York in October.
