You know what cinema’s been missing of late? A foul-mouthed sex offender with a penchant for licking bowling balls and questionable dancing skills.
That's right - fans of The Big Lebowski may want to pour themselves a celebratory White Russian with news that John Turturro is stepping back into the bowling shoes of Jesus Quintana for a spin-off of the 1998 Coen Brothers’ classic.
Directed, written and starring Turturro, Going Places - currently shooting in New York - is based on 1974 French film Les Valseuses, following the hijinks of three sexually charged oddballs whose brazen plans backfire over and over again.
The fact the French title is slang for “the testicles” shouldn’t surprise anyone familiar with Quintana: one of cinema’s true cult characters, if not quite the most unhinged of the pin pals in The Big Lewbowski, this is a man famed for such sage lines as “I would have fucked you in the ass Saturday, I fuck you in the ass next Wednesday instead.”
The film also stars Audrey Tautou, Bobby Cannavale and Susan Sarandon. But then you don’t care about that, do you? All you want to know is whether John Goodman, Steve Buscemi or the dude himself, Jeff Bridges, will appear.
Well sorry, but as yet there’s no word on that, with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, which is financing and producing, even keeping details of Turturro’s character strictly under wraps.
We’re saying those wraps are purple and there’s some serious gyrating going on underneath.
