Remember Pokémon Go?
That was a thing, wasn’t it? Absolutely everyone was into it. And then, suddenly, overnight, they weren’t.
It was probably the first mass taste of augmented reality (AR) and, d’you what? It was actually really good. It got people off the sofa and out pounding the streets looking for Pokémon before the hype wore off, the servers failed to handle the strain, and people had already caught them all, so there were no lands out there left to conquer. For some, of course, who had no idea what a Pokémon was, it never even got started.
But everyone knows what dinosaurs are. And everyone (don’t lie, you at the back) grew up dreaming of meeting a dinosaur for real; a dream that came to life when Jurassic Park hit our screens back in 1993.
So, we have some extremely exciting news (which you may have noticed in the massive headline above): there’s a DINOSAUR VERSION OF POKEMON GO COMING OUT.
It’s called ‘Jurassic World Alive’ and it will be released “just ahead” of the second instalment of the JW trilogy, Fallen Kingdom which will arrive in UK cinemas on 22 June.
There’s a trailer, and it’s awesome - take a look:
It’s been made by game developer Ludia, and it will be a ‘mobile, location-based, augmented reality game’ which will see dino fans able to run around their cities, catch rare dinosaurs, incubate them - and create their own by extracting dinosaur DNA, which they can then battle against other fan creations. It’ll be available on the App Store and on Google Play, and you can visit the website here to pre-register.
President and CEO of Ludia, Alex Thabet, said in a press release:
“With Jurassic World Alive, our goal is for audiences to be fully immersed into a world with living dinosaurs in a way that’s never been possible until today. We’re giving them the opportunity to explore and connect with likeminded players while building and interacting with these powerful prehistoric species.”
Let’s be honest for a second here, this is very, very, very exciting.
“Where are you off to?” “Just out to hunt some dinosaurs.” “Oh OK, have fun!”
Imagine telling your five-year-old self that back in 1993, you’d never have believed it would be possible in your lifetime.
Only one thing we request please Ludia: augmented reality Jeff Goldblum. You know it makes sense.
See you out there fellow hunters.
