KFC have been extremely busy in the last couple of years, and not just on the frying chicken side of things.
The food chain has launched a chicken gravy-scented candle, paid thousands of dollars towards a child’s future university fees because they were named after Colonel Sanders, and even hired RoboCop for a recent ad.
If you were worried this meant they weren’t focused on the chicken, though, they want to reassure you by inviting you down to one of their kitchens to see how the sausage is made, if you’ll pardon the mixed metaphor.
For a £5 fee – profits from which will go to charity– you can go to one of a number of restaurants across the UK and Ireland to watch the chefs in action close-up.
“More than just a chance to have a nosey, Open Kitchen offers a unique hands-on experience and attendees will also leave as the proud owner of an exclusive KFC branded apron, hat and maybe even some elusive chicken cheques,” the event blurb reads.
“Ticket holders will be put through their paces to see if they can master the art of hand-breading, handle the heat of the frying and work at pace to build their own KFC burger.”
It’s first come, first served, and a few of the London venues have already sold out, but at the time of writing there are still tickets available for open days in a couple of venues near the capital including South Mimms, Dagenham, Hounslow and Twickenham.
The open day is on 30 March, with profits going to the KFC Foundation (for UK events) or different charities for Ireland.
If we’re being honest, all this reading about checking has made us a little peckish, and has left us with just two questions.
Number one: will we find out the identity of the 11 herbs and spices?
Number two: Is it lunchtime yet?
