Having access to the U.K.'s largest digital book catalogue with 2.2 million titles the Kobo, out now to buy and WHSmugs (do people still call it that?), could be the real bibliophiles dream.
The Amazon Kindle has access to only 750,000, but Kobo users will have to logon to WHSmith's ebook store and then set up a Kobo account to download their booky wooks. They can, however, buy books from ‘open’ eBook retailers, not just Amazon.
The Kobo Wireless costs £89 while the touchscreen Kobo Touch, which we've played with and is ace, is priced at £109.99. Kobo has proved very popular in the US.
Both models include 6inch e-ink displays, which apparently allows more comfortable reading in both bright and dim light thanks to improved contrast and a lack of backlight.
With Amazon failing to provide a launch schedule for the Kindle Touch in the UK, WH Smith could have moved at the right time. Christmas pressie perhaps?
