Leicester celebrates its title win so much that hospital A&E has to issue a warning
Foxes fans go feral
Jamie Vardy started it: now the whole of Leicester is having a party.
The unlikeliest Premier League champions in history stepped up their celebrations on Saturday, as they played their final home game of the season and the first match since their triumph was secured by Spurs' failure to win at Chelsea last Monday.
A crazy day at the King Power stadium saw opera star Andrea Bocelli sing Nessun Dorma and Time To Say Goodbye, after making a promise to manager and fellow countryman Claudio Ranieri to perform if the Foxes became champions. They then triumphed 3-1 over Everton to increase their lead at the top to 10 points, before captain Wes Morgan lifted the trophy with Ranieri.
Meanwhile, before, during and after, Leicester fans were getting understandably sozzled, leading to Leicester hospitals having to issue a tweet urging people not to come to A&E unless it was an emergency. Leicester Royal Infirmary said that twice as many people as usual had reported in on Saturday night, with many suffering alcohol-related injuries.
A statement from the University of Leicester Hospitals NHS Trust read:
"Last night and this morning we have seen twice as many patients in our emergency department than we would normally on a Saturday night and Sunday morning. We expected it to be incredibly busy this weekend and have the necessary plans in place to safely treat our patients. A plea is for those who do not need to come into A&E to call NHS 111 for healthcare advice."
An open top bus parade is scheduled for Monday 16 May - best get your hospital visits and operations done by then.
