Let Microsoft guess your age using facial recognition
Never ask a lady her age, they say...
Notice how they never say anything about running a lady’s name through a Google imaging system and scanning their features with complex algorithms in order to guestimate their probable age? Well good news in that regard...
This is How-Old.net – Microsoft’s new demo showpiece primed to take the internet by storm and your lunchtime by the hour, using complex algorithms to assess a person’s age by the photo you provide. Ideally of yourself.
Rolled out in part to showcase the tech giant’s already impressive gadgetry (Windows 10 already uses facial recognition as a log-in option), the process works by a) extracting the gender and age of the people in these pictures’, b) ‘obtaining real time insights on the data extracted above’, and c) ‘creating real time dashboards to view the above results'.
OK, so it sounds thoroughly boring, but the results are quite the opposite. Upload a picture and have a go yourself. So far, the ShortList office has seen differing results.
Besides, at least we know technology isn't quite ready to enslave mankind just yet.
