We’ve spent the best part of two years getting a chance to look forward to a new Lion King movie, and now we have a trailer to go along with the confirmed all-star cast.
Talk of Beyonce and John Oliver joining the roster for the remake is now official, while one of the stars of the original Disney animation is reprising his role.
And there’s now a shiny new trailer too, as well as a confirmation of a release date much sooner than some might have expected.
From the second the opening notes of ‘Circle of Life’ hit, you’re instantly taken back to the original 1994 film, which won Oscars for Best Original Score and Best Original Song.
The trailer doesn’t give too much away, though that hardly matters when we’re all familiar with the original story.
What’s most important is the stunning visuals, which are sure to make the 25th anniversary remake a feast for the eyes regardless of anything else.
Donald Glover will voice Simba, with Beyonce Knowles-Carter playing Nala – the two roles were played by Matthew Broderick and Moira Kelly respectively in the original.
Mufasa was played by James Earl Jones in the original, and the veteran actor is reprising his iconic role at the age of 87.
Others involved include Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), Billy Eichner (Timon), John Oliver (Zazu) and Keegan-Michael Key (Kamari), while Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book) is the director.
The release date is confirmed for 19 July, 2019, putting it right at the centre of next summer’s blockbuster season.
