Ben Affleck is straight-up gangster in the exposive new Live By Night trailer
Think Dick Tracy on steroids
The old Ben Affleck – the cheesy Jersey Girl one – is long gone.
These days we have a brand new Affleck, an absolute hero of dramatic cinematic. No, not Bat-fleck, but the man we like to call Affleck V.20 – the director of blistering thrillers Gone, Baby Gone, The Town and Argo. Two of which the man starred in.
And from the look of the explosive new Live By Night trailer, this time V.20 is going full gangster – smashing it on both sides of the camera.
He returns to his old filmmaking stomping ground of Boston, adapting the novel from Bostonian author Dennis Lehane – who also wrote Gone, Baby Gone, Mystic River and Shutter Island, so, y’know, no slouch.
Affleck plays a prohibition-era gangster, who crosses a mob boss by pilfering both his cash and woman (which was never going to end well), forcing him into an ulra-violent world of revenge and ruthless ambition in the criminal underworld of Tampa, Florida – think Dick Tracy on steroids.
And with a cast that also includes Zoe Saldana, Brendan Gleeson, Chris Cooper, Elle Fanning and Sienna Miller, this is definitely one to watch. Check out the trailer below.
Live By Night is in cinemas 13 January 2017
