Man City have created the cringiest video ever to celebrate their title win
The rest of the football world was not slow to laugh
If there’s one team in Manchester that should be feeling embarrassed this morning, it’s United.
After they staged an incredible second-half comeback against their rivals City last week to deny them the pleasure of winning the title against them, they proceeded to fold meekly, at home, against bottom of the table side West Brom, losing 1-0 to gift City the title.
A single goal in the 73rd minute at Old Trafford from Jay Rodriguez was enough to give the Baggies only their fourth win of the season - a great escape from relegation is still possible, but hugely unlikely with the team nine points from safety with only four games to play.
Pep Guardiola was out playing golf as the news filtered through of his first Premier League title, with the defeat, coupled with City’s win on Saturday away at Spurs, putting them 16 points clear at the top with five games to play.
So it should have been a day of pure celebration and joy.
And then this happened.
Yes, you did just see that with your own eyes.
A full stadium of title-celebrating fans and players, singing along to a bastardised version of ‘Happy and You Know It’.
A reminder: City were not playing when they sealed the title, and have not played since doing so. This would all have been pre-filmed. Of course, maybe that’s not an issue seeing as it’s so realistic and that’s exactly how real football fans behave.
Reaction from the internet, as the clip went viral, was swift and unanimous.
Others went with humour:
Others demanded there be consequences.
Naturally, the clip had fans reminiscing about other classic moments of corporate awfulness in the name of football.
What’s worse, the City video or the Leeds badge? Sometimes a choice is just too difficult to make, they both belong in a dark cupboard never to be seen again.
So what was actually happening at the Etihad? Well, this.
